ON-LINE Partial Discharge Mapping. An essential asset management tool.
High Voltage Solution (HVS) has highly qualified PD dedicated engineers that come from the HV Power Industry (Some with over 40 year's experience) along with external international training (UK); with full on-line back-up from UK consultants. We are the first On Line Partial Discharge Company based in Australasia's to provide this service.
In the perfect world, a newly commissioned High Voltage cable will be configured and jointed correctly to deliver years of faultless performance. Unfortunately, experience tells us our world is far from perfect and mistakes do happen. In a 2000 Australian survey, 13 cables showed discharges out of the 21 cables tested over an 11 day period (source: Power Magazine, Sept/Oct 2000).
The solution is Partial Discharge surveillance. High Voltage Solution (HVS) Partial Discharge service team can test and report on new high voltage cable installations to ensure that there is no "leakage" from incorrect installation or material flaws. It there is a problem, it can be remedied by High Voltage Solution before it is commissioned, optimising the performance of the circuit and eliminating the risk of failure. This same service is available for existing HV cables, and this can be particularly valuable with old cabling. PD surveillance allows remedial work to be planned cost-effectively, improving reliability and eliminating the risk of disruptive and expensive power outages.
With the introduction of built-in "Arc Flash protection" for switch boards that manufacturers have introduced, traditional methods of detecting internal PD have become ineffective to accurately detect. To cover this, HVS in 2010 have undertaken considerable R&D and developed a process in conjunction with the very latest PD advancements developed both in the United Kingdom and United States to accurately detect this internal destructive PD.
In addition to this we can "Map" your underground cables using "PD cable mapping software" this has been purpose-written for local conditions. This enables us to deliver accurate mapping and diagnosis of your cables, and implement the correct remedial response. (I.e. this effectively "looks" down the in-service cable and identifies if any PD is present and allows for a location of this PD to be undertaken while the cable is still in-service carry normal load current).
High Voltage Solution can map failure with exceptional accuracy. We are able to locate the source of discharge to within 20 metres over a 6km cable length and predict the likelihood of failure, including an approximate timeline for such an event. A Partial Discharge mapping programme can be undertaken on a regular or spot-check basis. Alternatively, PD equipment can be installed permanently on an HV cable, with on-line monitoring by High Voltage Solution.
We offer a 24/7 rapid response service anywhere in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, complete with an account manager dedicated to giving you peace of mind.
Partial Discharge surveillance is the future today, and it should become standard procedure in all asset management programmes for High Voltage heavy industries, electricity distributors and power generators. This includes foundries, ski fields, hospitals, dairy and meat works, telecommunication centres, water and sewage treatment plants, mines, port loading facilities, and power generation (wind farms / hydro) stations, substations and distribution networks.
